6-Day Kilimanjaro Adventure via Marangu Trail

On a 6-day adventure to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro via the classic Marangu Route, known for its scenic beauty and comfortable hut accommodations,. This journey takes you through lush rainforests, across the striking alpine desert, and finally to the summit of Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Ideal for those seeking a more relaxed climb without compromising the thrill of reaching the Roof of Africa, this trek offers a unique blend of challenge, comfort, and breathtaking landscapes.

On the day you'll land at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Then head to your hotel, in Moshi. Meet up with your trekking guide, for a chat. To go over your gear. Spend the night in Moshi.

A guide and a team of mountain support staff will meet you at the hotel in the morning for an introduction before embarking on a journey, by vehicle to the entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park; Marangu Gate (1,860 m/6102 f). Upon completing the formalities, such as obtaining climbing permits and registering with the search and rescue service, the group will begin trekking towards Mandara Hut (2,720 m /8,922 f). The trekking path involves passing through a rainforest where tropical showers are common. It is advisable to bring extra clothing and raincoats. Upon reaching the campsite, our mountain support team will attend to your needs. Prepare lunch for you.
During your trek along the Marangu route, accommodation for nights will be provided in huts as an alternative for those who prefer not to camp, in tents.

Today is a day designated for getting used to the surroundings. You can choose to spend it trekking along Mawenzi Ridge. The breathtaking scenery provides sights of both Kibo and Mawenzi. After some time exploring the region, we make our way, to Horombo Hut.
Time taken: 5–6 hours
Distance: 11 km

We ascend slowly, then traverse the terrain known as the "Saddle”, between Mawenzi and Kibo. Our basecamp, Kibo Hut, is nestled at the foot of the Kibo crater rim. Upon arrival, we take a break savor a supper and get ready for the big summit day.

On the day of the journey, you'll wake up at 11 pm to have some tea, snacks and get dressed warmly. Around midnight, at 12 am we kick off our trek towards the summit. This part is both mentally and physically demanding with the wind and cold at this altitude and time of day. We climb in darkness for an hour, taking breaks along the way. Upon reaching Gilman’s Point (18,600 ft/5685 m), you'll witness a sunrise over Mawenzi Peak. From there, it's an hour’s hike to Stella Point (18800 ft/5756 m). Finally, you'll reach Uhuru Peak, standing proudly as the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and in all of Africa.
After soaking in the beauty of Africa's plains and celebrating your achievement for a while, we descend back to Horombo Hut for a nap and brunch. Later in the evening, we savor our dinner, on the mountain before enjoying a well-deserved night of deep sleep.

Our final day involved a hike mostly descending through the tropical rainforest. Upon reaching the park headquarters, at Marangu Gate, we obtained our summit certificates. A vehicle will be waiting for us there to transport us back to the hotel in Moshi.
